MUSKEGON, Mich. – A Muskegon teen will spend between 19 months and 15 years in prison for killing her newborn child and burying her.
Jessica Brewster, 18, was sentenced Thursday for Manslaughter. She pleaded guilty to the charge in May.
Brewster gave birth to the girl on October 15, 2014 and killed her shortly thereafter. According to court documents, she admitted to police that she covered the baby’s face with a towel after she started to cry, fearing she heard someone walking down the hallway toward the bathroom. She buried her at the Trinity Senior Living Complex on Shonat Street the next day. The infant’s body was found on November 10.
Brewster will be credit for 281 days that she has already served in the Muskegon County Jail. If she serves her minimum sentence, she could be free in ten months.
