ORANGEVILLE TOWNSHIP, Mich. -- One man is dead and another is in custody as authorities in Barry County continue to investigate a homicide that happened near Gun Lake Tuesday evening.
It happened in the area of Marsh Road and Wildwood Road south of Gun Lake around 7:30 p.m. Tuesday.
Barry County Sheriff Dar Leaf confirmed to FOX 17, both the victim and suspect were men in their 30s. Police believed the victim was shot in the middle of the road. The suspect was located a short time later and taken into police custody.
"Everything is under control," Leaf told FOX 17 Tuesday night. "We do have the subject in custody and there's really no need to panic."
It is unclear what lead up to the shooting or whether the two men knew each other. It's also unclear where the suspect was taken into custody.
As of Wednesday morning, authorities remained mum on any further details including the names of the suspect and victim.
