GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. - A Grand Rapids man has been arrested for stalking after several people reported him taking pictures of women walking around town.
Thomas Larry Chubinski, 69, was charged Thursday with a misdemeanor stalking charge, after allegedly harassing a woman walking her daughter at the intersection of Michigan and Diamond, and making repeated crude comments about her body. He faces up to one year behind bars and fines up to $1,000 if convicted.
His bond was set at $15,000.
FOX 17 reported earlier this week that women had reported the man driving around in an early-90s Lincoln Continental taking pictures of them.
He would also allegedly yell profanities and make explicit comments towards them as well. Devin Dinsmoor posted an encounter on Tumblr, which was then shared more than 120,000 times. Read that by clicking here (warning, contains profanities.)
Dinsmoor said she is grateful city authorities took these claims seriously, and wants others to do the same and call police then post to social media if they ever face threats or harassment in the future.
“With the amount of messages I’ve received and what happened to me even, it’s completely inappropriate, and I don’t want that on the streets of Grand Rapids," said Dinsmoor. "It’s okay to call, it’s okay to feel uncomfortable, it’s okay to say something. I hate to sound like those old propaganda posters but if you see something, say something.”
