Elderly man arrested for Kalamazoo credit union robbery

KALAMAZOO, Mich. — The Kalamazoo Department of Public Safety and Three Rivers Police Department worked together to arrest a 72-year-old man for robbing a Kalamazoo credit union Friday morning.

Simon S. Gutierrez was arrested Monday in Three Rivers. He is being held in the Kalamazoo County jail on $1 million bond, the full amount of which must be paid for his release on bail.

The Consumers Credit Union at 4023 Portage St. was robbed at 10:18 a.m. Friday. Kalamazoo detectives worked on the case and, with the help of Three Rivers officers, Gutierrez was arrested Monday.

He was charged with bank robbery and three counts of armed robbery.

Gutierrez has been convicted of numerous bank robberies. Hence, the $1 million bond that was set for him.
