DOWAGIAC, Mich. –
A fire was contained and put out in a Dowagiac McDonald’s yesterday night.
The Dowagiac City Fire Department responded to an alarm at approximately 8:50 p.m. Friday at the McDonald’s restaurant located around the 600 block of Spruce Street in Dowagiac.
It was reported that the building was filling up with smoke.
Upon arrival, the manager of the McDonald’s told Dowagiac Fire that all the employees and the customers had been evacuated from the building.
In a press release from Dowagiac Police, the investigation found that the fire appeared to have started in the women’s bathroom above the stalls. The fire was contained to a ventilation system.
Firefighters removed several feet of the ceiling to prevent the fire from spreading.
The fire was brought under control at about 9:15 p.m. and Dowagiac Fire cleared the scene at 10:59 p.m.
There were no injuries reported.
The press release also stated the Dowagiac Fire Department commends the McDonald’s employees for quickly reporting the fire as well as getting the customers and themselves out of the building and to safety.
The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
