50 years of work damaged by Portland tornado

Posted

PORTLAND, Mich.– It took just 30 seconds for a tornado to damage 50 years of the hard work one Portland couple says they put into their home and 40 acres of property.

Jim and Jean Klein’s home took a direct hit from the June 22nd tornado.

The couple was in their sun room Monday afternoon when they said the pressure suddenly changed and the tornado hit moments later.

Jim rushed Jean to the basement. When they emerged, the couple discovered their roof was gone, and their belongings covered in insulation and rain.

Fortunately no one was hurt.

The next day, about 100 people showed up to help the Klein’s pack what was left of their belongings and move it to their temporary home. They’ll be renting a house about a mile and a half away.

Ironically, the Klein’s said a tornado hit their property back in 1967, but it did not do nearly as much damage.

The couple is waiting on the insurance company to determine whether they will have to rebuild.
