Car hits tree, two passengers seriously injured

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – The Grand Rapids Police Department is investigating a car crash that left one passenger in serious condition, and another with life-threatening injuries, after hitting a tree.

Officers said one car was involved and struck a tree on the 2300 block of Butterworth Street SW around 5:40 p.m. Saturday. Four men were inside the car at the time of the crash, when officers said the driver was speeding and crossed the center line, then went off the south side of the road and hit a tree.

One passenger was thrown from the car and has serious injuries, and another passenger has life-threatening injuries, officials said.

The driver is a 28-year-old man who was arrested for reckless driving causing serious injury.

The Grand Rapids Police Department’s Special Services Unit has investigators on site of the crash and are conducting an ongoing investigation.
