WENATCHEE, Washington– “This was a special, special deal.” That’s what retired firefighter Mike Hughes had to say about being reunited with the girl he saved when she was a baby.
Seventeen years ago, Hughes rescued Dawnielle Davison when she was 9 months old and trapped in her crib during a house fire. “The room was full of hot smoke. Another 20 seconds and it would have been a different outcome,” the retired Wenatchee firefighter told KOMO.
About seven years ago, Hughes connected with Davison on Facebook.
Davison told KOMO she wanted the man who saved her life to see her graduate from high school. So, the two were reunited over the weekend. “Really emotional. I don’t know really how to describe it. They’re happy tears, to realize some things could have gone wrong,” she said.
