ALLEGAN COUNTY, Mich. — A father driving with three children in the car veered off the road Wednesday evening, hitting a power pole before hitting several trees.

It happened around 6:00 p.m. at 64th Street and Blue Star Highway near Saugatuck.

Officials on scene told FOX 17, the SUV veered off the road and hit a power pole knocking out power to the area.

Authorities said between the vehicle being wedged between trees and downed live power lines around the vehicle, extraction of the driver was difficult. It took about 40 minutes to get the driver out of the vehicle.

The driver was airlifted to the hospital, with unknown injuries. Witnesses said the three children were out walking around outside of the vehicle. They were also taken to the hospital with unknown injuries.

Authorities said it is unclear at this point what caused the driver to lose control and veer off the road.
