GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. — Term-limited Mayor George Heartwell on Monday pledged his support for mayoral candidate and current city commissioner Rosalynn Bliss.
Heartwell said he has worked with Bliss since 2006 and feels she is the best-suited candidate to serve as Grand Rapids’ next mayor.
“She is a strong leader who is smart, strategic, thoughtful and visionary,” Heartwell said in a Monday press release. “Based on my experience, we’ll not find a harder worker to serve our city as our next Mayor.”
Bliss was the first to officially declare her candidacy in January. If elected, she would become the first female mayor in Grand Rapids.
Other candidates who have filed to run for Grand Rapids mayor include former city commissioner and former state representative Rev. Robert Dean, retired engineer John George, and military veteran Willard Lee.
