Above is the high-resolution satellite image from today available from NOAA Coastwatch. Notice the band of clouds which parallel the lakeshore all the way from Traverse City into northern Indiana.
West and northwest winds prevailed most of today along the lakeshore. Since Lake Michigan water temperatures are in the 30’s, the cool wind kept clouds from forming, until the air warmed inland, and a few cumulus clouds developed. High temperatures along the lakeshore struggled to around 50 today, while inland areas warmed into the lower 60’s. The lake breeze will continue until mid-summer with the right wind direction.
