SAUGATUCK TOWNSHIP – Detectives with the Michigan State Police have released details on a ‘vehicle of interest’ following a hit and run injury crash that happened last December.
The crash detectives are investigating happened near the intersection of Old Allegan Road and Blue Star Highway, where a bicyclist was struck by a jeep.
Detectives have released an image of a Jeep believed to be in the vicinity of the crash shortly after it happened. The Jeep is a two-door Wrangler with a unique Jeep-style front bumper.
The driver involved is believed to be a male about 6’0″ tall with a thin build, approximately 40 years old with “spiky red hair”.
State Police say the Jeep sustained damage to the front portion of the vehicle in the crash, along with possible damage to the front driver’s side area.
In an initial media release by Michigan State Police on the evening of December 6, investigators said the bicyclist who was hit was homeless. Investigators said at that time the driver of the Jeep involved in the crash made contact with the injured bicyclist and asked him if he was ok. The bicyclist replied he was badly injured and needed help, at which point the driver of the Jeep left the injured man alongside the road without calling 911.
Anyone that may recognize the Jeep in question, or knows the driver, is being asked to contact the Michigan State Police Wayland Post at 269-792-2213.
