5 victims identified in Blossom Acres shooting

BENTON TOWNSHIP, Mich. — Investigators with the Benton Charter Township Police Department have identified five people who suffered injuries following a shooting Sunday evening.

According to a release from Benton Charter Township Police, officials were called to Blossom Lane and Concord Street at the Blossom Acres housing development at about 9:30 p.m.

Investigators have been able to determine a dispute between two or more individuals led to gunfire in the street, wounding 4 people:

  • Darell W. Craft Jr., 20, of Benton Harbor who suffered a gunshot wound to the torso area and is listed in stable condition.
  • Deontae M. Poindexter, 18, of Benton Township who suffered a gunshot wound to the abdominal area and is listed in stable condition.
  • Tevin T. Hayes, 24, of Benton Township who suffered a gunshot wound to the right hip area and was treated and released.
  • Dina D. Welch, 42, of Benton Township who suffered a gunshot wound to the lower back area and was treated and released.

Another Benton Township resident, 46-year-old Priscilla M. Anderson, suffered possible cardiac arrest while in the vicinity of the shooting incident.  Though not directly involved in the shooting, she’s currently listed in critical condition.

Investigators say the shooter(s) involved in this incident are yet to be identified, though detectives are following up on several leads, assisted by the Michigan State Police, St. Joseph Public Safety, St. Joseph Township Police, Berrien County Sheriff’s Office and the FBI Violent Crimes Task Force.
