Man, 45, dies in St. Joseph Co. fire

BURR OAK TOWNSHIP, Mich. — A 45-year-old man was found dead after emergency crews responded to a fire in Burr Oak Township Thursday night.

According to Michigan State Police, the fire was reported at about 9:35 p.m. in the 62000 block of Middle Colon Road.  It took roughly four hours to contain.

The man was the only person in the home, police said.  Burr Oak Township fire officials said preliminary investigation indicates that the fire could have been caused by an unattended cigarette, but the investigation is ongoing.

The victim’s name has not yet been released.
