DEARBORN, Mich. — Michigan State Police say an 87-year-old driver caused the crash that led to a tanker explosion on I-94 in Dearborn, according to FOX 2 in Detroit.

FOX 2 reports that the elderly driver was in the right lane when they attempted to change lanes and hit the front of the semi-truck.   The 55-year-old semi-truck driver moved into the left lane and hit a third vehicle.

State Police are submitting paperwork to the Secretary of State for a possible re-examination of the 87-year-old’s driving privileges, according to FOX 2.

The March 11 crash closed I-94 near the Wyoming exit for several hours.   All three vehicles involved in the crash were totaled but no serious injuries were reported.
