BLOOMINGDALE, Mich. — A deputy with the Van Buren County Sheriff’s Office was just one of several people taken to the hospital after a crash Saturday night.
It happened around 7:20 p.m. on West Kalamazoo Street in the Village of Bloomingdale.
Michigan State Police said the deputy’s vehicle struck another car while responding to a back-up call. Apparently, there was a student intern, 17, in the patrol vehicle, as well. The Honda driver, 37, was apparently trying to turn into a driveway when the patrol car struck her vehicle. State police said the patrol car’s lights and sirens were active at the time of the crash.
Inside the Honda was the female driver, as well as two teenage boys. One of the boys had serious injuries and was flown from the scene to a Kalamazoo hospital. The driver was taken to a local hospital, and the other teen was treated at the scene.
The deputy and the 17-year-old student intern were taken to the hospital and treated for minor injuries.
The crash is under investigation.
