ALLEGAN, Mich. – A big industrial fire Sunday morning is leaving more than 80 people unemployed.

Fire officials say it took 19 hours to fight the blaze at Allegan Metal Finishing Company, (AMFCO) in the 1200 block of Lincoln Road.

Representatives from Michigan Works and other agencies are working together to help people file for unemployment while preparing for an unknown future.

Employees we spoke with are finding the fire difficult to cope with.

“My heart just goes out to everybody and I hope that everybody finds work,” said 20-year employee Verna Minegar. “You know a lot of people there have kids and it’s just gonna be a hard time for a lot of people.”

In response to the fire, Michigan Works and the Allegan Economic Development Agency are hosting a job fair this Friday, March 20, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church, 110 N. Cedar St.
