KALAMAZOO, Mich. — Kalamazoo Public Safety officers have released a sketch of the suspect who they believe sexually assaulted a 14-year-old girl and robbed a man at gunpoint earlier this week.
According to a release, police were called to a home in the 1600 block of Reed Street at about 3:03 a.m. Feb. 25. They discovered the teen had been sexually assaulted after a man broke into the home. Police say the suspect confronted a second resident when he arrived home and robbed him at gunpoint.
The suspect was last seen fleeing westbound on Reed Street. He then fired two gunshots at the ground while walking down the street, police said.
By Friday afternoon, all detectives had to go off of was two shell casings, a sketch of the suspect, and the teenage victim’s statement.
“She told us that she had been sleeping on the couch and sometime, probably around two in the morning, someone knocked on her door, she looked out the window and she saw an unknown black male on the porch,” Detective Lieutenant, David O’Strander, with KDPS said. “He told her to open the door. She let him in the house at that point.”
Ostrander said a K-9 unit tracked the suspect but was unable to find him.
Police describe the suspect as a black male in his 20s, between 200 and 230 lbs. and between 5 five 8 inches and 6 feet tall. He was wearing a black baseball cap, a blue hoodie under a black coat and blue jeans at the time of the incidents.
He has cornrows or other braids in his hair and two or three tear drop tattoos near his left eye, police said.
