Police: Man facing charges for lying about Lake Odessa shooting, house fire

LAKE ODESSA, Mich. — A 29-year-old man is facing felony charges after officials say he fabricated a story abouta Feb. 18 shooting and house fire in Lake Odessa.

According to Lake Odessa Police Chief Mark Bender, the man will be arraigned on three different lying to police charges: false report of arson, false report of assault with intent to do great bodily harm and false report of home invasion.

The man allegedly told investigators someone broke into his home in the 900 block of Third Avenue and shot him in the arm.  He also claimed that after fleeing the house he saw it was on fire.

He is still in the hospital being treated for the gunshot wound, police said.   He will be identified pending formal arraignment.
