VAN BUREN COUNTY, Mich. — A Mattawan police officer is recovering after being hit by a car while on duty Saturday.
The officer was responding to several crashes on I-94 around 12:30 pm Saturday. In the process of developing order in the snowy chaos, the officer saw a female crash victim attempting to exit her vehicle on the roadway.
The officer spoke with the woman near her car, but was struck by a passing vehicle as he began walking away from her.
After being struck, the officer was able to radio back his injuries to dispatch. Ambulances arrived soon after.
The name and condition of the officer are not being released at this time. The case is still under investigation.
