Taxi driver sentenced for Kalamazoo sexual assault

KALAMAZOO, Mich. — A 39-year-old man who raped a woman at gunpoint in Kalamazoo was sentenced Wednesday to at least 42 years in prison.

Robert Prescott was previously convicted of 15 charges connected to the Jan. 2014 sexual assault.

He was found guilty in January of four counts of first-degree criminal sexual conduct, seven felony firearms charges, one count of unlawful imprisonment, two counts of unlawful weapons possession and one count of assault with a dangerous weapon.

Kalamazoo County Circuit Court Judge Pamela Lightvoet sentenced Prescott Wednesday to a minimum of 42 years in prison, but he could spend the rest of his life behind bars.

According to MLive, the former Godspeed Taxi driver’s initial sentencing on Monday was delayed because of his loud, vulgar outbursts when the victim attempted to deliver a statement in court.   He appeared via video for Wednesday’s hearing.

“I couldn’t have been the first girl he’s done this to,” she said in court, according to MLive. “But I’m glad that I’m the last girl he’s done this to.”

Online jail records show Prescott had previous assault and unarmed robbery convictions prior to the taxicab rape.
