EAST LANSING, Mich. — The Michigan State University board of trustees has approved a massive $88.1 million construction project to build a new Biomedical Research Center in Grand Rapids.
The 160,000 square-foot, multistory facility will be built at the site of the old Grand Rapids Press building near Monroe Avenue and Michigan Street, the university said in a release.
Construction of this initial building is estimated at $85.1 million, with the rest of the budget going toward demolishing the old Grand Rapids Press building.
Demolition is scheduled to start in March, and the research center is expected to open in late 2017, according to a release.
