CALHOUN COUNTY, Mich. — After attempting to stop a suspicious vehicle, an Albion Police Department car was rammed and the driver fled last weekend.

After a brief chase, police took Demarcus Elliot Dewalt, 23, into custody without incident.

At 2:30 a.m. Sunday, police attempted to stop a vehicle on State Street near Austin Avenue in Albion after the driver was observed driving in a parking lane. The driver refused to stop and fled. Police chased the vehicle down Broadwell Street to Easton Street and then onto Wild Street. The driver then made a U-turn at Carson Street and rammed into the front of an Albion patrol car.

The driver then fled again, heading northbound on Second Street and then eastbound on Broadwell Street before losing control near Terpenning Street where he stopped after going over a curb and into a yard.

After the chase police discovered that Dewalt was driving a car stolen from a family member.

DeWalt faces multiple charges and the Albion Police Department indicated to FOX 17 NEWS that other charges may be pending.
