BATTLE CREEK, Mich. -- Battle Creek Police say two pit bulls found in a garage on North McKinley Street may have been left there for as long as six weeks.
One of the dogs was emaciated and the other was dead when police were called to the scene Wednesday afternoon.
The malnourished dog was taken to the Calhoun County Animal Shelter, police said.
According to the Battle Creek Enquirer, the property owner said a former neighbor asked to keep the dogs in the garage for a short time when they were being evicted.
He said he never uses the detached garage and didn't know the dogs were still there, according to the Enquirer.
Police are still investigating the incident.
