Two people charged after a high speed chase in Kalamazoo

KALAMAZOO, Mich.- Two people were arrested early Sunday morning after a high speed chase in Kalamazoo.

According to the Michigan State Police, the chase started around 5 a.m. Sunday morning after Troopers observed a red Chevrolet vehicle travelling at a high rate of speed on Douglas Avenue. Troopers started following the vehicle which then sped up and passed other vehicles while travelling on Alamo avenue. The suspect continued to flee after Troopers activated their emergency lights.

The suspect vehicle continued to travel into the Fox Ridge Apartment complex where the driver jumped out of the vehicle and fled into one of the buildings. Troopers say that the suspects vehicle was still in gear and struck the building approximately one foot away from an external natural gas pipeline.

The Michigan State Police were able to obtain a search warrant for the apartment that the suspect fled into. Troopers searched the apartment and arrested two people.

The driver of the vehicle is being charged with fleeing and eluding, obstruction, reckless driving, and driving without a licence. The driver is being held at the Kalamazoo County Jail.

A second person was arrested and released on bond for outstanding warrants.
