SANDUSKY, Ohio- Sunday is the last stand for Cedar Point’s 18-year-old Mantis roller coaster.

Cedar Point officials say the last rides on the record breaking Mantis roller coaster will take place on Sunday before shutting the stand-up coaster down so it can be transformed into a new floorless roller coaster named Rougarrou.

When the Mantis opened in the spring of 1996, it was the tallest (145 ft.) and the fastest (60 mph) stand-up roller coaster in world.

Rougarou will carry riders on floorless trains instead of the old stand-up trains at 60 mph down a 145-foot first drop and around a 119-foot-tall vertical loop. While Rougarou will use the same track as the old Mantis, park officials state it will be a new and spookier experience for riders.

Rougarou is expected to be open in the spring of 2015.
