LYONS TOWNSHIP, Mich. — Police are investigating a fatal accident that happened Sunday morning when a pedestrian was hit by a car, and they now say it is being treated as a deadly hit-and-run accident.

Michigan State Police say that it happened at around 2:30 am near M-21 and Kramer Road. That’s in Ionia county.  According to troopers at the scene, the victim, 42-year-old Thomas Ruehs, was hit by an unknown vehicle.  Ruehs did not survive.

The driver of that vehicle failed to stop at the scene, and just kept driving.

Troopers say there will likely be heavy front-end damage to the suspect’s vehicle, might be red or maroon in color, and may have a large chrome grill.

Police are urging the public to come forward with any potential information that could aid in the investigation by calling Silent Observer or dialing 911.
