WALKER, Mich. — A motorcyclist was killed late Thursday night, after police say a car turned in front of him at a Kent County intersection.
It happened at around 9:30 p.m. at Wilson Avenue and Butterworth Street in Walker. Officers say a woman in a KIA Sorrento was stopped at a blinking red light, and attempted to make a left turn. She failed to see an approaching motorcycle, and there was a collision.
The man on the motorcycle, identified as Timothy DeVries of Jenison, did not survive. He was wearing a helmet.
According to the Michigan Department of Transportation, Wilson Avenue SW was closed in both directions, and did not re-open until around 12:30 a.m. on Friday.
Alcohol is not believed to have been a factor, but police are looking into whether or not high speeds may have played a role. The crash remains under investigation.
