IONIA, Mich. — A cable broke on a carnival ride Friday at the 2014 Ionia Free Fair.

Free Fair marketing director Becca Usher told FOX 17 NEWS that the cable broke on the Drop Shot ride, which holds 16 people. She said the ride was a drop ride and the cable broke after riders already were dropping, so the ride and riders both were unaffected.

Usher said the only thing noticeable at the time was a loud snap when the cable broke.

There were no injuries.

She said the ride was taken down for the remainder of the fair.

The cause of the malfunction is unknown. State inspectors checked the ride and declared it safe just two days prior to the cable break.

The 2014 Ionia Free Fair wrapped up its 2014 run Saturday after opening on July 17.
