NEW BUFFALO, Mich. (July 13, 2014)– Everyone is safe Sunday afternoon after a fire in a hotel earlier in the morning.
According to Berrien county Sheriff’s Department, at around 8:30 a.m. Sunday morning they received a call of a fire in O’Briens Hotel and Resort Inn located at 11539 O’Brien Court.
Witnesses and hotel staff say dark smoke filled the hotel, and was coming from room #126. Everyone was evacuated, and no one was injured. According to investigators, the fire was started from an overheated television that caused a small electrical fire.
Two women, ages 74 and 53 were treated for smoke inhalation, but are expected to be OK. The damage estimate is unknown at this time. All 37 occupants of the hotel got out safely.
