ROYAL OAK, Mich. (July 10, 2014) — A girl from West Michigan who was attacked by a raccoon while she was lying in a crib, continues her recovery on Thursday. She is due to receive a new ear.
We’ve been following Charlotte Ponce’s story for years now. Charlotte, who is now 12 years old, left Spring Lake on Wednesday to head to Royal Oak for treatment. A few months ago, doctors there took cartilage from her rib, molded it into the shape of an ear, and then put it on her forearm to help the skin grow.
Now, the next step is to remove it from her arm, and attach the replacement ear in its proper spot. Charlotte has already had several reconstructive surgeries to fix the damage done to her face.
Thursday’s procedure is expected to take upwards of eight hours. We’ll keep you posted on Charlotte’s progress.
