GRAND HAVEN, Mich. (July 9, 2014) — Steve Hewitt, 50, died while jogging at Hoffman Park. That’s according to staff at Grand Haven High School, where he taught.

Tracy Wilson, the school’s principal, remembers Hewitt as a man of integrity and someone who was strong in his faith.

“When the person (on the phone) said that they had a runner down in Hoffman Park, and they were pretty certain it was Steve, I just said it’s not possible. He was just in school today. I just talked to him this morning. I was just in shock and disbelief,” she recalled.

Wilson said Hewitt joined the high school in 1999 as a guidance counselor. He also served as a basketball coach for 14 years. Hewitt was the boy’s varsity basketball coach for the past 9 years.

Hewitt was a husband and a father of three children. Wilson said Hewitt’s youngest son will be a junior at Grand Haven High School in the fall.
