BENTON HARBOR, Mich. (July 9, 2014) — A Benton Harbor woman died Tuesday after officials say she was shoved while trying to break up a fight on E. Vineyard Avenue.

According to the Berrien County Sheriff’s Department, Patricia Nichols was shoved off of a porch head first into a concrete walkway by a man who was allegedly strangling her son.

That man, 21-year-old Jamyran Roberson, was arrested on charges of domestic violence by strangulation and involuntary manslaughter.   He’s currently lodged in the Berrien County Jail.

According to a release, Roberson and Donte Nichols, 23, have been dating and were inside the house arguing over a custodial supervision issue when the attack moved out to the front porch.

Nichols was pronounced dead at the scene.  An autopsy will be performed sometime Wednesday, according to a release.
