ALLEGAN COUNTY, Mich. (June 25, 2014) — A 21-year-old woman was killed and her grandmother is clinging to life in the hospital Wednesday after they were attacked at a Wayland home.
Kassandra Keyzer, 21, was a student at Aquinas College and engaged to be married in just a few weeks at a Wayland church. Her grandma, Sharon Keyzer, was slashed in the throat during the same attack.
FOX 17 has confirmed that the suspect is a 15-year-old family member who was also hospitalized with injuries. Police say the suspect was running away from the home when they arrived on scene Wednesday.
Kassandra had a 3-year-old son who friends say was the light of her life.
“She was an amazing mother. I’ve never seen such love that she had for her little boy,” a friend, who asked to remain anonymous, said.
Loved ones also say Sharon Keyzer had been battling cancer.
“She’s a fighter and she’s been doing so well and now she’s fighting for her life again in a different way,” they said.
It’s unclear when the suspect will make his first appearance in court.
