COMSTOCK PARK, Mich. (June 20, 2014) — The Meijer State Games will return for the fifth year in a row across Kent County, with the official opening ceremony at 7 p.m. at Fifth Third Ballpark.
The summer games take place June 20-22, and six new sports have been added, bringing the total number of games to 39, with an expectation of hosting more than 7,000 athletes from across the state.
The new sports include:
- Bocce ball – location: TBA
- Cyclocross – location: TBA
- Downhill Skateboard – location: downtown Grand Rapids
- Horseshoes – location: Grandville
- Table Tennis: DeVos Place, Grand Rapids
- Waterskiing (three events) – Slalom: Millennium Park, Jump and Trick: Placid Waters, Allendale
The Meijer State Games are modeled after the Olympics, and athletes of all ages and abilities are welcome.
