GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. — (June 18, 2014) — The eighth annual Champions of Character All-Star Basketball Classic had a twist this year.
Along with a boys and girls high school all-star game, an additional showcase game was added with professional basketball players from the West Michigan area taking on a team of former Michigan State Spartans. Former Grand Rapids Union star Thomas Kelly got a bunch of his fellow MSU Spartans to come to Cornerstone University on Wednesday, including Charlie Bell and Mateen Cleaves. They took on a team of professional basketball players with West Michigan ties that are mostly playing in Europe now.
In the end, the West Michigan Europe Pros defeated the Thomas Kelly MSU All-Stars 104-74 in an exhibition game that helped raise money for the Champions of Character Lecturing Series.
