Retired KDPS Officer Dies From His Injuries In Crash

ONTARIO , Canada (June 2, 2014) —  A retired Kalamazoo Department of Public Safety Officer has died from his injuries following a motorcycle accident in Canada.

Greg Straka Senior passed away Saturday after sustaining injuries from the wreck on Memorial Day.

He was riding with a group of motorcyclists.

Straka served the community for 27 years in multiple positions after being hired as a Kalamazoo Department of Public Safety Officer in 1973, according to his obituary.

The dedicated officer held many positions during his career including being a founding member of the Kalamazoo Department of Public Safety Honor Guard and a member of the Special Investigations Unit.

Straka leaves behind a wife, two children, grand-children, and great-grandchildren.

Greg Straka’s visitation will be held in Kalamazoo on Wednesday from 4:00pm – 8:00pm at the Life Story Funeral Home.  Funeral Services will be held on Thursday at 4:00pm at the 12th Street Baptist Church in Kalamazoo.
