PINE GROVE TOWNSHIP, Mich. (May 30, 2014) — A man has been arrested after police say he fired a handgun several times at a home among family members on May 29 around 8:05 p.m.
According to the Van Buren County Sheriff’s Office, the 49-year-old suspect from Gobles was upset over personal and family issues as well as a lawn tractor that was stolen from the home earlier that morning, but was located a short distance away.
Police say the suspect drove the lawn tractor back to the home on 20th Avenue after it was found, and once there, he started to argue with family members. Police say he then pulled out the gun and started shooting into the air and at a parked car. Witnesses got the gun away from the suspect and no one was hurt.
Police say their interview with the suspect confirmed that he fired the weapon several times and acted out of anger over personal issues.
He was arrested for reckless use of a firearm and was taken to the Van Buren County Jail. Police say more charges may be sought in connection to the stolen, and later returned, lawn tractor.
