HOLLAND, Mich. (May 22, 2014) — A 17-year-old boy has died after rescue crews pulled him from the waters of Lake Michigan, according to a spokesperson for Holland Hospital.
The teenager was pronounced dead at 10:39 p.m. on May 21, just hours after he went underwater at the Holland State Park.
Police say that after the teen jumped into the water and struggled to stay afloat, a friend tried to pull him out with life rings. When that didn’t work, the friend told someone to call 911.
The hospital’s spokesperson told FOX 17 that crews performed CPR on the teen at the scene and on the way to the hospital, and when attempts to revive him failed, he was pronounced dead.
