HOLLAND, Mich. (May 21, 2014) — Emergency crews pulled a swimmer from the icy waters of Lake Michigan after searching for several hours Wednesday.
Ottawa County Dispatchers said crews were called to the scene at approximately 6:15 p.m. The swimmer was pulled from the water just before 9 p.m. and dive team members attempted to revive him before he was rushed to the hospital with a police escort.
Officials told FOX 17 that two men were swimming near the pier earlier this evening. One of them became distressed in the water, and the other got out to throw them a life ring and missed.
When the friend ran to grab a second life ring, police say the distressed person was not visible when they returned.
FOX 17 is on the scene and will continue to bring you more updates as they become available.
