GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (May 16, 2014) — Game 5 of the Calder Cup Western Conference Semifinals played out exactly like the series’ first four games.
A quick two goals from the Texas Stars seemed to have the Grand Rapids Griffins reeling — before the defending Calder Cup champions put on a dazzling display to tie the game at 2-2 — exactly where the best-of-seven series stood going into the evening.
Now, the story has taken a turn for the worse for the Griffins.
Chris Mueller scored 3:18 into overtime to give the Stars a 3-2 win and 3-2 series lead, putting the Griffins on the brink of elimination as the series heads back to Texas for Game 6.
Mitch Callahan and Teemu Pulkkinen scored for Grand Rapids. Petr Mrazek stopped 26 shots in goal.
Game 6 is Sunday at 7:00 p.m.
