BATTLE CREEK, Mich. — A school went into lockdown mode after three teenagers were found with BB guns inside a vehicle in an elementary school parking lot Friday.
The Battle Creek Police Department said three teenage boys were found in possession of two BB guns in a vehicle while waiting for a fourth friend who had gone inside the Minges Brook Elementary School to get help from a teacher with a homework assignment.
The school then went on lockdown for 10 to 15 minutes.
Police said two of the teens had just purchased the BB guns and while they were waiting in the parking area in front of the school for their friend they began to remove the guns from the packaging. A witness observed this activity and contacted police.
The school was placed on lockdown until police officers arrived to investigate the incident.
At no time were the boys out of their vehicle nor was anyone threatened. Once it was determined that the guns were BB guns, the teens were sent on their way and the lockdown was lifted.
