Whitecaps Set Franchise Record with Win After 18 Innings

Posted

COMSTOCK PARK, Mich. (May 6, 2014) — The West Michigan Whitecaps walked (literally) away with a win after playing their longest game in franchise history: a whopping 18 innings of baseball.

The game between the ‘Caps and Lake County Captains was tied 2-2 at the end of the third inning, and there wouldn’t be another run scored for hours.  Lake County managed to score in the 17th inning, but the Whitecaps would answer with a run of their own.

Then in the bottom of the 18th inning, the ‘Caps had the bases loaded with two outs, and a full count.  Lake County’s pitcher didn’t put one over the plate, resulting in a walk…and a game-winning run.  West Michigan walks into the record books, winning their longest game in franchise history with a score of 4-3.
