ANN ARBOR and EAST LANSING, Mich. (May 1, 2014) — On one side, there’s a match-up we saw just 13 months ago. On the other, a showdown 35 years in the making.
The Michigan Wolverines will host the Syracuse Orange in a rematch of the 2013 Final Four on December 2 — and Michigan State will travel to South Bend to play the Notre Dame Fighting Irish on December 3 in their first meeting since Magic Johnson led the Spartans against them in the 1979 Elite Eight.
Both games are part of the 2014 Big Ten/ACC Challenge, announced by the conference earlier Thursday.
The Wolverines beat the Orange 61-56 in the national semifinals of the NCAA Tournament last April before falling to Louisville in the championship game. The ’79 MSU squad got past the Irish 80-68, on their way to a national title.
Game times and networks carrying the match-ups will be announced in August.
