HOWELL, Mich. (March 17, 2014) — Several Howell students were disciplined for posting racist tweets after the school’s Thursday boys basketball game.

According to theMLive, the tweets were posted after Howell’s predominantly white team won a Class A regional final game 54-49 over Grand Blanc, whose team has both black and white players.

“Not only did we beat Grand Blanc but we’re all white. Howell’s the definite winner tonight,” one of the tweets quoted in MLive says.

Some of the other tweets referenced Hitler and the Ku Klux Klan.

Howell High School Principal Jason Schrock has said the students who tweeted these things weren’t affiliated with the basketball program.

He declined to specify what punishment the students are facing, but told MLive, “The school has responded to each instance and is moving forward.”

Howell is scheduled to play a Class A quarterfinal against Mt. Pleasant 7 p.m. Tuesday at Davison High School near Flint.
