GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (March 15, 2014) – National Pi Day was observed Friday, March 15th, and while many marked the mathematical holiday in classrooms, others like FOX 17 Chief Meteorologist Rick Mecklenburg decided to hit the kitchen instead.
Pi Day is an annual celebration commemorating the mathematical constant. It has been observed in many ways, including eating pie, throwing pies, and discussing the significance of the number π. Some schools hold competitions as to which student can recall Pi to the highest number of decimal places.
While Rick Mecklenburg may know a thing or two about mathematics, he chose the art of devising a pie at Sweetie-Licious Bakery at the Downtown Market in Grand Rapids to mark the day.
