‘No Threat’ at MSU Following Alarming Text to Students

EAST LANSING, Mich. – Social media was abuzz Monday afternoon after students and staff at Michigan State University received a text stating there was a report of a gunman on campus.

“At 1 p.m. we had a report of a person with a gun at Bessey Hall.  Michigan State University Police found a person using a training weapon and there is no threat,” said a tweet from MSU at 1:17p.m.

The original text to students stated, “MSU ALERT, Man with a gun seen heading into Bessy Hall secure-in-place immediately. Please advise others if you can.”

A second text stated, “MSU ALERT, 2/24/14 at 1:00pm we had a report of a person with a gun at Bessey Hall.  MSUPD found a person using a training weapon and there is no threat.”

Bessey Hall is home to the Air Force ROTC offices at MSU.
