GOBLES, Mich. (Feb. 22nd, 2014)- A man was arrested Friday night on his 5th Drunk Driving in 2 years, this time he had a 4-year-old child in the car with him.
According to the Van Buren County Sheriff’s Department, a 28-year-old man from Kalamazoo stopped his vehicle in the middle of the intersection of State Street and Depot Street in Gobles. When deputies made contact with the man, they smelled a strong odor of alcohol coming from the driver along with other indicators that the driver may be intoxicated.
The driver was then given a field sobriety test and found that the man was intoxicated. He was then arrested.
As deputies were arresting the man, they found a 4-year-old girl in the vehicle. Deputies took care of the child until the child’s mother arrived on scene and picked her up.
During the investigation, it was discovered that the man had been arrested 4 prior times for operating while intoxicated within the past 2 years and is currently in alcohol court in Ionia County
The driver was later found to be over two times the legal limit for alcohol consumption while driving when given a breath alcohol test at the Van Buren County Jail.
The man is being charged with OWI 3rd or subsequent offense, Child Endangerment and violation of a court restricted license and is currently being held at the Van Buren County Jail. The child was not injured in this case.
