GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. — A California man arrested in October 2013 is now facing federal charges for taking an Allegan County teen to Missouri last year with the alleged intention of having sex with her.
Joseph Arpin was indicted on charges of enticement and attempted enticement of a minor, travel with intent to engage in illicit sexual conduct with a minor and transportation with intent to engage in illicit sexual conduct with a minor.
Arpin traveled from California to Allegan County with the intention of having sex with the teen, the documents allege. Sometime late Oct. 21 or early Oct. 22, officials believe the 13-year-old Hamilton girl climbed out of her bedroom window and left with him.
Arpin was taken into custody in Crestwood Mo. after being found with the teen.
The court documents, filed Wednesday in the U.S. District Court in Grand Rapids, claim that Arpin contacted the teen on the internet and convinced her to have a relationship with him.
