GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. — Jack Alan Groenendal, 54, will spend the next 15 years in federal prison after being convicted on child porn charges.

Groenendal was sentenced Monday for attempting to receive child pornography and attempting to access child pornography with intent to view it, according to a release from the Department of Justice.

He received 15 years for the first charge and a concurrent 10 year sentence for the second.  He was convicted of the crimes in October 2013.

“Between July 6 and August 9, 2011, Groenendal made a deliberate and sustained effort to seek out child pornography on the Internet and to bring that child pornography onto his computer where he could view it, control it, and use it for his own purposes,” the release said.

Groenendal was on supervised release for a previous child porn conviction at the time of his arrest.  After he serves his time for this conviction, he will be put on an eight-year period of supervised release and maintain his registration as a sex offender.
